Marjorie and Ara

Buenos Aires, Argentina, is the heart of the original Tango that has spread its excitement and popularity across the globe. As an improvisational dance it is evergrowing, ever changing and evolving in its nature which can only be captured in that moment when two bodies and the music become one.

Having evolved from a backgrond of teaching Social Ballroom Dance and group classes in the Fundamentals of Argentine Tango at Cafe Casablanca, Ara and Marjorie, now devote their time to private Tango instruction in their Victoria, BC studio.

In early 2011 Ara and Marjorie spent a month travelling South America including Argentina and Uruguay, both of which have been sactioned by the United Nations (UN) as being the birthplace of Tango. Their experiences dancing in each country have returned them to Victoria with a renewed sense of passion for and discovery of this beautiful, sensual dance and an even greater desire to share it with others.

Marjorie has grown up with a love for dance and has studied ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, flamenco, belly dancing, ballroom and yes, even pole dancing and jazzercise. Ara has a strong background in Social Ballroom dance and has taught and danced in Victoria for many years. Over seven years ago they were introduced to Argentine Tango. Since then they have committed themselves to the challenge with enthusiasm and a strong belief that “the Tango must be earned.”

Along their tango journey Ara and Marjorie have benefited from the expertise of Tango Caminar's very talented Brent and Hedy, beloved instructors and friends - as well as many visiting instructors from Argentina and elsewhere such as Eduardo Saucedo (teacher and performer at CITA, the biggest tango festival in Buenos Aires); Homer Ladas (perhaps the foremost American tango innovator); Michael and Beatrix, who live, dance and study in Argentina; and Tony Fan and Ilana Rubin of Seattle y mui mas.

In their private studio Marjorie also teaches Therapeutic Yoga with flavours of Hatha and Ashtanga while Ara shares his considerable knowledge as a third-degree black belt in Okinawa style Shorin Ryu Karate.
